Why You Can’t Move a Pool Table Like Normal Furniture
A standard 8-foot home billiards table weighs between 700 and 1,000 pounds. The vast majority of this weight is concentrated in the slate playing surface, which is usually composed of three separate, incredibly fragile stone slabs. Attempting to lift or roll a fully assembled pool table will irreparably warp the wooden cabinet frame and crack the heavy slate seams.
The 4-Step Relocation Process
- 1. Teardown: We carefully remove the rails and pockets while specifically leaving your existing felt layer completely intact and expertly protected on the slate.
- 2. Slate Removal: We melt away the beeswax holding the slate seams together and transport the three stone slabs vertically, padded in heavy moving blankets to prevent stress fractures.
- 3. Transport & Cabinet Assembly: At the new location, we assemble the wooden frame and install the legs, ensuring the structural integrity is uncompromised.
- 4. Machinist Leveling: We place the slate back onto the frame, sealing the seams with hot beeswax. We then use machinist levels and shims to perfectly balance the three slate seams, leaving the table ready for your final felt installation.

Can you move a pool table without taking it apart?+
Absolutely not. Attempting to move a standard 3-piece slate pool table without full disassembly will warp the frame and crack the slate. Our technicians fully dismantle the rails, pockets, felt, and slate prior to transit. We transport the heavy slate pieces vertically and secured to prevent stress fractures.
What happens to the felt during the move?+
In 99% of all pool table relocations we perform, we do not touch or remove your existing felt. Our specialized disassembly techniques allow us to transport the slate and frame with the delicate cloth fully intact. When we reassemble and precision-level your table at the new destination, it will be immediately ready for play without any need to hire a technician to re-stretch or replace the felt.
How do you ensure the table is level at the new house?+
A pool table is useless if it isn’t perfectly level. During reassembly at your new location, we use machinist-grade precision levels and wooden shims. We level the primary cabinet frame first, then precisely level the three slate seams using beeswax or slate bond to ensure a flawlessly smooth, seamless playing surface.
